strengthening the vital work being done at Toweni Shelter, run by YWCA, affiliated to the Non-governmental Gender Organizations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC).
“…To the YWCA and Shelter Team, we say thank you for your wavering support and dedication towards ending GBV.
And Lusaka Ladies Circle National Projects Convener, Ms. Lailah Lungu said 2023 to 2025 project has a clear mission: “to support two Safe Houses in Zambia”.
“I am pleased to share that we successfully made our first donation to Kitwe Adolescent Center in November 2024, Copperbelt Province, aligning with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. That contribution was a significant step in helping survivors rebuild their lives”.
“Today marks another milestone. Thanks to the generosity and unwavering support of our members and partners, we raised sevety-four thousand, four hundred and sixty Kwacha (K74,460, 00) enabling us to meet some of the critical needs of the Lusaka Safe Houses,” Ms. Lungu said as she alluded to a needs assessment.
Ms. Lungu hoped that the donated items will not only provide comfort but serve as a reminder to ‘our sisters’ at the shelter as valued citizens”.
“On behalf of Ladies Circle Zambia, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has contributed to this cause. Your kindness and commitment make this work possible. Together, we are amplifying the voices of survivors, fostering resilience, and empowering communities to stand against GBV,” Ms. Lungu acknowledged.
Receiving the donation, YWCA Lusaka Branch President, Ms. Mwaka Mulenga thanked Lusaka Ladies Circles for the donation, saying it would go along way towards empowering GBV Survivors.
Referring to the biblical parlance, Ms. Mulenga said blessed was the hand that gives than the one that receives.
“Thanks very much because our children, our GBV Survivors are going to have a very favourable environment to live in, somewhere to sleep in and they will always remember the Lusaka Ladies Circle,” said Ms. Mulenga.
