INTRODUCTION
My names are; Gyft M’membe Born In April 20 in the year 199…at The University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka. I am the last born in a family of four (04)- three boys and one girl; with the first and second born being boys, third born a girl and last born a boy (myself) making a 3:1 ratio., Mambwe by tribe.
ACADEMIC LIFE& MEDIA CAREER
I started my Grade (1) in 2001 garden Open Communality School in Garden Lusaka, it is at this school where I did all my Primary Grades (One to Seven). I wrote my Grade Seven (7) exam in 2007 and passed with flying colors.
In 2008 – 2009 I was enrolled at Hillside Secondary School in in Matero, where I did my 8th and 9th grades.
In 2010, after graduating from the 9th grade, I moved to Golden North High School in Kamwala, and it was during this time that I developed an interest in media work, and this passion resulted in a professional stint as I joined the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) Zambia youth Buzz Fun Club, where I was given a Sports buzz segment because of my interest and wealth of knowledge in a variety of local and international sports disciplines. While, at TBN Zambia, I equally developed an interest in been behind the scenes programming and production, which prompted management at this Christian oriented broadcasting house to task me as a Cameraperson as well as Floor Manager for the some show.
Circumstances beyond my control crept as I really wanted to write my Grade Twelve Exam at a Government institution, thus this burning desire resulted in my moving from Lusaka to Mufulira, Copperbelt Province, where I eventually completed the last year of Mufulira High School and later graduated from.
LIFE AFTER SCHOOL
After completing my senior education level, I started as volunteering at Pan African Radio in Lusaka, where I learnt radio skills and later given a weekend Youth Talk Show (Zambian Children and Young People in Development-ZCYPD), which I am still a host and producer with the help of other youths. Besides, the ZCYPD programme, facilitated by Derrick Sinjela’s Zambian Developmental Media Alliance (ZADEMA) opened doors for me as I was enlisted to work with other partners who I met through the programme called, Zedprenuers and later Agents for Change Foundation Zambia. Zedprenuers is a focus group identifying and building an enterprising mind, while Agents of Change Foundation Zambia, is facilitating mentorship of Climate Ambassadors and Youth Reporters through an initiative dubbed; Triple G-Great Green Generation. Later, in 2013, I was given night shift shows where I believe my indefatigable radio broadcasting career mushroomed as I in no time crafted my art for radio, so much so that in 2014, I decided start a new one hour show “The Evening Experience” but later dropped this experimental name to the “Grave Yard Shift” and rewarded with an additional Sunday musical countdown shift branded-(Zed Beats Top 15), co-hosted with Vernon “Vezzy” for some time until 2015. This show gave me a platform to meet Zambian artists like Roberto, Mainza, Adora , Ozzy, Urban Hype, Slap Dee, to name but six as the list is endless.
Besides being a radio entertainer, I am so passionate about the youth of my country-Zambia, which aspiration made me stand out in the crowd in 2015, as I was part of the youths shortlisted as discussants at the 18 Partnership on Child Maternal Health, a rare chance to meet Gracia Machel in person,a major 2015 highlight.
In mid-2015, I was voted as the Best Pan African Radio presenter, which recognition humbled me as age did not act as a barrier, for management to reward me such limelight, though I was and remain the youngest on-air-presenter.
As stated earlier, being shortlisted as a facilitating partner with Agents of Change Foundation Zambia, a movement of young people with a passionate desire to nurture a cadre of Progressive Youths and Youthful Reporters.
LIFE AS AN ENTERPRENUR
In the late 2015, I started my own clothing business line dubbed ‘Tonix Classic Wear’ still developing.
Lately, as a communicator, I have ventured in doing television advertorials, with the latest being a series of adverts encouraging citizens, with specific focus on young people and women registering as voters, casting votes and indeed contesting for public office beyond the Thursday 11th August 2015 Local Government, Parliamentary and Presidential Elections.
As a communications industry student, I have started learning how to produce print, audio, visual advertisements as I really want to grow my multitasked ability as a budding broadcaster and media personality.
I am currently presenting a three-hour Sunday Show, which I have named as Afro Café, a weekly show, targeted at profiling the rich musical and cultural heritage of Africa.
Recently, on Afro Café, I spoke to two talented Zambian lads with one microphone; two Slap Dee through a phone and Brian Bwembya aka B Flow in a Studio interviews respectively.
B Flow is a Zambia artist recognized by First Black President of the United States of America (USA), Barack Obama as a 2015 Washington Mandela Fellowship, on account of his passionate songs which celebrate women and the girl-child.
I believe the sky is not the lime as in my latest edition I have profiled the musical expertise of a Zambian musician in the diaspora-Chisenga Katongo aka C.R.I.S.I.S. ( Mr Swagger), based in Australia, through skype.
