PRESS STATEMENT BY PATRIOTIC FRONT SECRETARY GENERAL HON DAVIES MWILA ON THE NANGULA AND CHUMBWE WARD BY ELECTION VICTORIES

Felicitations and greetings to all in the name of peace and unity.
On behalf of the President His Excellency Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu and the Patriotic Front Central Committee, it is once again my privilege to congratulate the Party on registering victories in yesterday’s two scheduled by elections.
Congratulations to our Candidate Cde Thabo Kayando for emerging victorious in the Nangula ward by election under Limulunga district of Western Province and to Cde Edmond Mpongwe who went unopposed in the Chumbwe ward by election under Lunga district in Luapula Province.
To Cde Kayando I say “Mata Kwa Sichaba (power to the people)”. Never forget that you have been elected by the people and that power lies in them. serve them diligently.
To Cde Mpongwe I say “Bombeni nabekala musumba (embrace and work with the community)”. Going unopposed in an election must not make you forget that you need the people. Everyone counts as we deliver development.
The two victories are further testimony of the Patriot Front’s nationwide popularity and evidence of the party’s foothold in regions once considered opposition strongholds.
The party under the able leadership of President Edgar Lungu continues to deliver on its promises and developmental agenda as enshrined in its manifesto. The party has continued to attract patronage and new members as a result of strong democratic tenets and an open door policy with equal opportunity for all who come on board.
In light of the COVID19 outbreak in the country, I call upon the Electoral commission of Zambia to postpone all by elections that are scheduled to take take place in the near future to a period after the pandemic has been dealt with and the nation declared covid19 free. This is in order to safeguard the lives of our citizens and curtail possible transmission of the virus.
