MY name is Edith Zewelani Nawakwi born in Mwenzo, in Nakonde, Northern Province of Zambia and I’m an economist by profession.
I have a degree in Agriculture Economics and Business Management from the University of Zambia and a post-graduate diploma in Economics of Energy and Development from Imperial College London, London.

I was Energy Economist at the Ministry of Transport and communication in the year 1983 to 1985 and later became Executive Secretary of the National Energy Council from 1985 to 1987.
I later joined politics in 1990 and I am a founder member for the Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD). I was MMD Chairperson of the National Executive Committee and architect of energy policy in Zambia.
I was Member of Parliament for Nakonde Constituency, my birth place in the year 1990 to 2001 and later on elected as Member of Parliament for Munali Constituency in 2001 to 2006.
I became Deputy Minister for Energy and Water Development, Government Republic of Zambia from the year 1992 to 1993. I then became Minister of Energy and Water Development from 1993 to 1996.
In 1996, I was asked to serve as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries, Government Republic of Zambia and later in 1997,I became the first woman in Zambia and the entire SADC region to hold the post of Minister of Finance.
I later on served as Minister of Labour and Social Security, Government Republic of Zambia between 1999 to 2001.
In 2001, The Forum for Democracy and Development- FDD was formed, where I served as the party’s secretary-general and vice-president before I was elected party president in 2005, making me the first woman in Zambia to achieve such feat.
I believe the presidency is not about voting male or female but it should be about voting for the best person for the job.

As at Thursday 20th February 2020, 541 days, a year and 5 months and 26 days, or 77 weeks and 2 days, remain before the The Thursday, 12th August 2021, Tripartite Elections to be conducte by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chairperson Justice Essau Chulu and ECZ and Chief Elections Officer (CEO) Patrick Nshindano.
