FAZ ELECTORAL COMMITTEE UNVEILS SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Electoral Committee unveiled candidates that successfully filed their nomination for the March 2020 elections.
Chairperson Ronald Hatoongo highlighted the benchmarks that candidates needed to meet before they could be declared bonafide candidates for the elections.
“Allow me to say that as an Electoral Committee our work is informed by the statutes of FAZ. These include the constitution, the Electoral Code, the Standing Orders among others,” Hatoongo said.
“Thus the said statutes prescribe the requirements that every aspiring candidate must meet in order to qualify for an elective position or put differently to be able to file a valid nomination.”
Hatoongo said, “For those whose nomination forms have not met the Constitutional requirements and/or have failed the integrity check, not all is lost, at least for now as they have window for appealing.”
The Appeals Committee will hear the grievances of any of the candidates that fell off after the Ethics Committee screened the applicants in accordance with the FIFA aligned Electoral Code.
The FIFA approved roadmap started with FAZ sharing their calendar leading up to elections in November 2019.
After the roadmap was approved by FIFA, the FAZ membership held an Emergency General Meeting to approve the Electoral Code and Electoral Committee, Appeals.
Once the Electoral Code, Electoral Committee and Appeals Committee were approved, the nominations were opened on February 1, 2020 and closed seven days later.
The Ethics Committee then vetted the candidates in strict adherence with the Electoral Code and FAZ Constitution before forwarding the names to the Electoral Committee.
After the announcement of the successful candidates by the Electoral Committee, the applicants whose nominations were not successful were given four days to appeal.
Once the Appeals Committee decides on the appeals the next stage will be the March 7 provincial elections that will be conducted up to the 21st of March.
On March 28, 2020 the football family will converge to elect the president, vice and female candidate.
The FAZ executive committee will comprise 13 members with 10 of them drawn from each of the provinces.
