Leader of the largest opposition Political party in Zambia, Hakainde HICHILEMA, and nine other Political Leaders have resolved against taking a confrontation stance to force holding on a demonstration during this festival season.
This comes after Lusaka Province Police Commissioner, Nelson PHIRI, objected to their notification to conduct a peaceful demonstration against a payhike for Cabinet Ministers.
According to his official Facebook page, Mr. HICHILEMA, wrote…
“We have fully complied with the legal provision as provided for under the Public Order Act.
We have so far been told that we cannot go ahead with our planned demonstration as it is a festive season.
For now we have requested the police command to give us a date that they think is suitable for us to hold our peaceful demonstration.
The public must note that our colleagues in the PF have been holding these public processions and demonstrations even outside sacred institutions such as the judiciary as was the case last week without police notification.
We have been promised that some form of commitment in writing will be done before the end of today”.
Our Team of Analysts acknowledges that spirit of maturity of not being forceful to go ahead like in the past experiences. This is a true mark of National Leadership despite it being their constitutional right to hold peaceful demonstration.
Mr. HICHILEMA, was accompanied by among others ADD Leader, Charles MILUPI, Fraser SIWALE, Pep Leader, Sean TEMBO.
