Mwanakatwe to deliver 2018 Commonwealth Business Forum Keynote Speech

The Commonwealth Enterprise and Business Council has invited Zambia’s MINISTER OF FINANCE MARGARET MWANAKATWE as a VIP SPEAKER at the Commonwealth Business Forum on the sidelines of the April 2018 Commonwealth Heads of State and Government Summit in London, United Kingdom (UK).
Delivering a congratulatory message, at the Ministry of Finance (MoF) in Lusaka, envoy to Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) LORD MARLAND OF ODSTOCK, ALISTAIR JOHNSON, said the Commonwealth Business Forum is on platform on which to showcase the soundness of Zambia’s economic reforms.
In a Media Statement by Ministry of Finance (MoF) Public Relations Officer (PRO) Chileshe KANDETA, Mr. Johnson hopes Mrs. Mwanakatwe will utilize the Commonwealth Business Forum to articulate progress made in stabilizing Zambia’s economic fundamentals and setting the groundwork for sustained growth.
“At the Forum, investors will not only be keen for updates on Zambia’s growth prospects but also interested in understanding the policy-legislative reforms that you are pursuing to create a stable investment climate,” JOHNSON told Mrs. Mwanakatwe, who took leadership from Works and Supply Minister, Felix Chipota Mutati on Wednesday 14th February 2018.
Johnson says the Commonwealth Business Forum offers Small and Medium Enterprises [SME’s] opportunities to participate in the Commonwealth Export Champion programme and the Commonwealth Mentorship programme.
Mr. JOHNSON says many business sector players in Britain admire the determination of the Zambian Government to stand on its own feet through implementation of transformational programs such as the Economic Stabilisation and Growth Programme [ESGP].
Accepting the invitation, Mrs. MWANAKATWE reiterated the Zambian government’s recognition of the United Kingdom as a strategic partner.
“We have a significant opportunity to utilize the Forum as a platform for attracting business and solid investment to Zambia,” said the Minister, adding that, “for us it will also be an occasion to articulate our reform trajectory and also a chance to benchmark with commonwealth countries that are doing better than we are at the moment,” a delighted Mrs. Mwanakatwe, currently serving as Patriotic Front (PF) Lusaka Central Member of Parliament (MP) said.
The Commonwealth Business Forum is a global event which brings together Heads of Government, Ministers, and Senior Business Leaders from around the world.
The 2018 Commonwealth Business Forum will provide an opportunity for high level dialogue on trade and investment between business and government’s from across the commonwealth and beyond.
The Commonwealth Business Forum is construed as an opportunity through which to identify areas in which the Commonwealth family can help its member countries to access modern financial services, harness technology and innovation, attract inward investment, and improve sustainable business practices – particularly through private sector collaboration.
And the newly appointed Minister of Finance embarks on an orientation programme today-Wednesday 21st February 2018.
Mrs. Mwanakatwe, will soon be meeting Zambia’s Cooperating Partners, players in the financial and economic sectors to engage on matters of mutual development interest.
The programme includes visits to the Bank of Zambia (BoZ), Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Pensions and Insurance Authority (PIA), and the Ministry’s grant-aided-institutions.
Meanwhile, SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY FREDSON YAMBA has written to the World Bank, The African Development Bank, and the International Monetary Fund, to inform them of the replacement of Felix Chipota Mutati with Mrs. Mwanakatwe.
Formerly, Commerce Trade and Industry Minister, Mrs. Mwanakatwe automatically becomes a Governor on the respective boards of the three multi-lateral institutions.
