ELECTORAL Expert Macdonald Chipenzi says it is difficult to celebrate youth day in Zambia because the majority of young people are languishing in poverty due to high unemployment levels.
Speaking in an interview with Pan African Radio, Chipenzi said as Zambia celebrate youth day, it is important that Zambians reflect on why over 50 years after independence unemployment levels, remains a huge challenge in Zambia.
Chipenzi said in the past when a child completes school it was automatically that employment was certain for a child, affirming that nowadays it is regrettable that things have changed such that many youths are not seeing the benefits being educated in Zambia.
And Chipenzi urged old politicians who have outlived their usefulness in the Zambian politics to resign and pave way for young and vibrant politicians to take up the mantle of leadership.
Chipenzi expressed sadness that some of politicians that served Zambia during Dr Kenneth Kaunda’s United National Independence Party (UNIP) Government are still dominating in the Zambian politics and wondered when will the Zambia youth be given an opportunity to govern the country.
And Chipenzi says it is abuse of authority for State house machinery to be marketing Zambian ambassador to Sweden Anthony Mukwita’s book dubbed against all odds because he is a private citizen.
Chipenzi said state house cannot market the book “against all odds” because the money is going directly to an author Anthony Mukwita.
It is alleged that yesterday, Mukwita was in the company of State House Spokesperson Amos Chanda and others at Manda Hill “Book World stores” where his book is being sold.
According to shop keepers at Manda hill “book world stores, the book is struggling to sell, confirming that only few copies have been sold since the book was unleashed on the market.
When reached for a comment, Zambia Direct Democracy Movement (ZDDM) President Edwin Sakala blamed poor reading culture and inadequate publicity for poor sells of Mukwita’s book.
He encouraged Zambians to get a copy of the book so that they can know the history of President Edgar Lungu’s journey to the highest office in the country.
Sakala urged Mukwita to also market his book for the people to know about it, believing that the book will surely be on high demand very soon once it is made known to the public.
In the book that is selling K150, Mukwita writes that President Lungu had a gruesome journey to presidency than any other leader who has ever ruled Zambia.
