ABIDJAN, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) — Excitement is mounting in Cote d’Ivoire as the streets of the West African country are packed with football fans from around the world, singing the official song “Akwaba” — meaning welcome in the local language — of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The much-anticipated tournament kicked off with a spectacular opening ceremony on Saturday night in Abidjan, the commercial capital of Cote d’Ivoire, where the spotlight is on the continent’s premier football talents.
