DEFENSE Minister AMBROSE LIFUMA says social accountability plays a pivotal role in strengthening community health.
Speaking at a Saturday 11th November 2023 Orientation Meeting for Parliamentarians on Community Health, in Chongwe District of Lusaka Province, Mr LIFUMA who is the Coalition for African Parliamentarians (CAHPA) Chairperson challenged Members of Parliament that their role went beyond representing constituencies.
“It entails being accountable for effective delivery of health services. By actively engaging with our constituents, listening to their concerns, and ensuring transparency in our action. We can build trust and foster a sense of ownership in our communities,” Lifuma said.
And Health Minister SYLVIA TEMBO-MASEBO said said President Hakainde Hichilema remained committed to the health of citizens hence prioritizing the sector in the recently inaugurated Presidential Delivery Unit(PDU).
“The Ministry of Health has two priorities (in the PDU) focusing on reducing maternal mortality and the other one on stabilizing the supply chain of medicines and medical supplies” said Ms MASEBO adding that President Hichilema further directed that all health centers should have a maternity annex.
