Lusaka, Zambia –
Wednesday November 2023 –
First National Bank (FNB) Zambia has announced the launch of the FNB foundation, an independently run entity which will be a special purpose vehicle to manage and accelerate the Bank’s corporate social impact. The FNB Foundation activities will be premised on the deliberate focus on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Societal priorities outside FNB’s core business activities to allow the Bank to truly help to create a better world.
Speaking at the launch, FNB Zambia Board Chairman, Mr. Richard Mazombwe said that the Bank sees itself as part of the solution to the many societal challenges that Zambia faces. FNB Zambia therefore continues to add its voice by complementing collaborative efforts of like-minded stakeholders such as Government, Global Development organizations and Non-Governmental organizations to support the communities it operates in.
“Through the FNB Foundation, we are committing a dedicated fund of 1% of our annual Profit After Tax toward various projects countrywide. We will be partnering and collaborating with the Government, Global Development Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations and others recognized stakeholders to create sustainable impact. FNB will also be driving a Staff Volunteer Program by matching FNB employees’ self-driven help projects with K1 for K1”, Mr. Mazombwe said.
“We are also excited to announce that as the first project under the FNB Foundation, the Bank has committed K1 million which will go towards upgrading Kalikiliki Health facility. This project is being actualized through a collaboration with the Ministry of Health who pointed us to this deserving need for the people of Kalikiliki, one of Lusaka’s populous locations”, Mr. Mazombwe added.
Kalikiliki Health Post which currently serves over 200 patients on a daily basis does not have a maternity wing and access to water is limited. The donated funds will go into establishing a maternity wing, improving the out-patient facility, provision of electricity and clean running water whilst ensuring that the facility is securely fenced, and its surroundings improved.
And FNB Zambia Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Bydon Longwe said, “At FNB, we continue to see ourselves as a good corporate citizen in all spheres of our operations. Going forward, our help will extend to areas beyond Lusaka, especially the rural areas. Further, our help will not just be in the health sector, but will include environmental sustainability, water and sanitation, education, innovation, infrastructure development, and other focus sectors within the sustainable development goals”.
“At FNB Zambia, we want to truly validate our promise of helping to create a better world and build a future of shared prosperity. Our operations transcend profit-making, and this is why we have been deliberate to accelerate our societal impact through the FNB Foundation and reimagine help for our people. FNB’s pledge is to continue providing innovative banking solutions whilst creative lasting positive societal impact as we complement concerted efforts for a better Zambia”, Mr. Longwe concluded.
