PEOPLE’S Party president Mulongoti says the Patriotic Front (PF) is the most generous party in the world after offering an Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) leader Felix Mutati to run the national treasury as Finance Minister.
Asked by Pan African Radio News Feedback programme presenter Caesar Sindele as to whether or not President Edgar Chagwa Lungu can offer Mutati an opportunity to act as President in his absence, and that of Vice President, Inonge Mutukwa-Wina, Mulongoti said unfortunately the constitution does not see Mutati as Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) but as a cabinet minister.
Mulongoti, a lawyer by profession Mutati is duly qualified to act as President when the Head of State and Ms. Mutukwa-Wina are not within the geographical boundary of Zambia.
“It is the first time in the history of world politics when an opposition leader has been given a duty to run the country’s economy,” explained Mulongoti, formerly Information and Broadcasting Services Minister.
Mulongoti is concerned that the media is not helping matters in the fight against corruption.
Regretting that some section of the tabloid media have not being doing justice to United Progressive People(UPP) leader Saviour Chishimba’s graft revelations, which recently prompted a Malawian parliamentary sitting in Lusaka, Mr. Mulongoti expressed fear that corruption has engulfed the public service.
Speaking when he featured on Pan African Radio News Feedback programme anchored by Caesar Sindele, Mulongoti wondered why the media misrepresented the facts of the meeting between Dr Chishimba and the Malawian Parliamentary Committee at the Malawian Embassy.
Mulongoti said he was surprised to see a headline in one of the tabloids that Dr Chishimba was quizzed by the Malawian Parliamentary Committee MPC) when in the actual fact the meeting was cordial and the opposition leader was given time to provide his evidence without interference.
The People’s Party leader, who accompanied Dr Chishimba, to the Malawian High Commission (MHC) said his counterpart’s resilience in addressing corruption saga as a whistleblower is worth admiring by Zambians regardless of political affiliation.
And Dr Chishimba has vowed that in the next few days he will expose Daily Nation owner Richard Sakala’s corrupt activities when he served as Presidential Housing Initiative (PHI) chairperson.
“In the next two weeks, I will expose Sakala’s corrupt activities to the general public,” dared Dr. Chishimba.
Dr Chishimba said Sakala is rubbishing his corruption revelations because he knows he will be next to be investigated for his alleged corrupt activities.
