Supreme Court Justice Evans Hamaundu to appear before Judicial Complaints Commission over ‘Corruption Allegations’ against him
By Merlyn Mwanza
The Judicial Complaints Commission (JCC) will hear complaints of corruption levelled against Supreme Court Justice Evans Mweembani Hamaundu, while dismissing complaints against his colleagues’ justices Michael Musonda and Nigel Mutuna respectively.
Impeccable sources in the judiciary have told Daily Revelation that the commission has resolved to hold hearings against justice Hamaundu between
January 17-19, 2023, with the
hearings being heard in camera or outside public eye.
Lusaka businessman Misheck Chatora in September 2022 complained against Hamaundu and the other four justices, raising corruption allegations against them in the manner they went about handling the appeal case involving
his company Maritime Freight and Forwarding against Zambian Breweries.
He argued that the justices abused their judicial authority by delivering a fraudulent judgment in favour of Zambian Breweries, saying he
had initially approached justice Hamaundu, who he claims had earlier asked him for a K20,000, with a complaint regarding the judgment but was assured that he had won and Zambian Breweries had lost.
Chatora yesterday also escalated the matter to the investigative wings when he lodged an official complaint to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) that justice Hamaundu solicited a K20,000 bribe from him over
a matter involving his company and the same Zambian Breweries.
But the JCC has cleared justices Musonda and Mutuna after
investigating the complaint and finding no basis against the two and that the
matter has since been closed.
Chatora also included justice Roydah Kaoma in the same complaint but no response has been heard over the same.
