MULTICHOICE has donated five oxygen concentrators to University Teaching Hospital (UTH) and Levy Mwanawasa General Hospital

MULTICHOICE has donated five oxygen concentrators to four children’s hospitals in the country including University Teaching Hospital (UTH) and Levy Mwanawasa General Hospital worth K225,000.

The donation is part of its commitment to support communities with investments on issues that matter the most.

The oxygen concentrators donated will ensure a consistent supply of oxygen to meet the rising demand at four hospitals. UTH received two oxygen concentrators whilst Levy Mwanawasa General hospital received one. Kitwe and Ndola central hospitals will each receive one.

In presenting the donation to hospital management at UTH and Levy Mwanawasa hospitals, MultiChoice Zambia Managing Director, Leah Kooma, said the oxygen concentrators were important to the treatment of illness in children.
“Multichoice values the health of children because it is important for their growth and development. I’m delighted that today we are fulfilling one of our commitments to helping improve the health of patients through the donation of oxygen concentrators,” remarked Kooma.

She added: “The oxygen concentrators we have donated will help increase children’s access to oxygen, which is vital in the treatment of illnesses in children and adults.

Speaking when receiving the donation at UTH, Senior Medical Superintendent, Dr. Manoj Mathews commended MultiChoice for its gesture, stressing that the donation would go a long way in uplifting the standards of healthcare services at the children’s hospital.

“Oxygen concentrators are vital in the hospital’s response to patients who are in critical need of oxygen and our donation will provide life-saving oxygen to patients who are struggling to breathe. These concentrators are also critical for treating children with pneumonia, which remains the leading cause of death from infectious diseases in children under 5 worldwide,” he said.

Meanwhile, Levy Mwanawasa Hospital, Senior Medical Superintendent Prof. John Musuku said the oxygen concentrators would have come at the right time when the hospital was in dire need of oxygen concentrators.

“With this donation, our health facility is now fully-equipped and adequately stocked to manage patients who are in dire need of oxygen, and oxygen supply is critical for patients to recover,” indicated Prof. Musuku.

Last year, MultiChoice Zambia donated 10 GOtv decoders with a one-year full subscription to University Teaching Hospital (UTH) children’s hospital.

Earlier in the same year, MultiChoice Zambia donated critical Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and supplies worth K225,000 to the Surgical Society of Zambia (SSZ) to help the country with the fight against Covid-19 and strengthen its response efforts.
