The African Union has launched the African Mining Legislation Atlas, a guiding set of principles to standardise mining policies, regulatory frameworks and legal regime in the mining sector.
Launching the guiding tool at the on-going Mining Indaba in Capetown , outgoing AU Commissioner of Trade &Industry, Her Excellency Fatima Haram Acyl said African countries needed to harmonise mining laws and regulations to help benefit the continent.
The tool is a guiding template that is intended to encourages local benefits and to help obtain optimal benefits from Africa’s natural resources.
The principles also encourages a win-win situation between development needs and commercial interests from the private sectors and other corporates.
The tool also sets minimum standards to help with negotiations and its capacity between investors and private investors.
