United States of America (USA) based Sprinter Prince Mumba as lodged a complaint to the Rainbow News Zambia Limited (RNZR) and Kwilanzi News Zambia (KNZ, a Zambian Children Young People and Women in Development (ZCYPWD) publication that track and field events in Zambia do not have enough public attention as is with counterparts in the football fraternity.
Speaking during the Zambia Athletic Association (ZAA) All- Comers Meet at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka, led by Elias Ng’andu Mpondela, meant to prepare athletes for the forthcoming world Junior Champions ships that will take place on Tuesday, 12th July, 2022 and common wealth games in August 2022, Mumba said families should be informed and educated about the benefits of athletes and how sports manages to market the country,
Mumba said athletic clubs and institutions must create a situation where children under the age of 18 years are looking forward to earn some incentives according their age to inspire them as well as please their parents.
He sports coaches should work in conjunction with parents or sponsors become creative award children are willing and who fail to qualify to competitions, so that there is continuity in their athletic journey.
“You know what I do back in USA where I train children, create a situation where children should they look forward to come to the sports facility the following day even after losing a race , or failing to qualify in terms of timing, I reward them with pairs of running shoes or track and field attire so that one is encouraged to come back where I train their friends,” Mumba explained .
He said should be given small incentives that would encourage them to go back to the sports facility and make a second home where they can be spending time from and keep away from mischief.
