Information and Media Ministry Director- Spokesperson Thabo Kawana says government will not give a listening ear to baseless witch hunt accusations by opposition parties more especially former Patriotic Front (PF) ministers and officials being investigated by law enforcement officers.
Mr. Kawana told the author in a recent interview that New Dawn Administration will not be hindered to fight corruption through opposition and civil societies peddling lies that there is a witch hunt targeted at certain group of citizens and regions.
Serving as MIM Spokesperson, formerly the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services (MIBS), Kawana said the New Dawn Administration wants Zambia to record a zero tolerance to corruption as a way of restoring civility.
”The fight against corruption is not targeted at PF former ministers, certain tribe or religious people, but across board, and will ensure those found wanting are brought to book. President Hakainde Hichilema believes in equal access to a fair trial within the dictates of the rule of law. President Hichilema’s his team is in a hurry to bring sanity in government institutions across the country, we want to see to it that justice which has been missing under the past government is restored and takes centre stage,” said Kawana.
A tart Kawana through the political gauntlet at the feet of PF leadership, who he accused of spreading lies and issuing baseless statements that the New Dawn Administration has failed to provide needed leadership to take Zambia s development to a higher level as articulated by HH before, during and after the Thursday, 12th August, 2021 Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government election.
“Government is concerned and regards corruption as being a vice which all well-meaning Zambians and public and private institution. We believe that corruption whether committed by those in the former government, now in opposition or those in UPND government, will be fought without fail,” said Kawana
Protested Kawana: “Government will not tire as our aim and vision is to see to it that we defend the Constitution of Zambia as; we are here to serve the Zambian people. Those that are accusing President Hichilema of promoted regional politics picking ministers and technocrats from Southern and North Western Provinces must take time to thoroughly check the appointments done. President HH is trying by all means to promote one Zambia one nation by embracing every tribe into government. Our message to those busy fuelling lies is that the New Dawn Administration is here to provide the leadership that will be appreciated by millions Zambians in urban and rural areas,” lamented Kawana.
Seven political parties namely; Saboi Imboela’s National Democratic Congress (NDC), Harry Kalaba’s Democratic Party (DP), Kasonde Mwenda’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Chishala Kateka’s New Heritage Party (NHP), Andyford Mayele Banda’s Peoples Alliance for Change (PAC), Sean Tembo’s Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) and Hector Soondo’s United for a Better Zambia (UBZ) hosted a Media Briefing at Southern Sun Hotel in Lusaka at which the UPND leadership is suspected to be diverting attention from fighting corruption and addressing Zambia s economy, to persecuting individuals deemed as good associated to former Zambian 6th Republican President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
