NOTICE OF RESIGNATION

To: The Economics Association of Zambia General Membership

Re: Resignation as Board Member – Philippe C. Masengo

It is unfortunate for me to announce my resignation as a board member of the Economics Association of Zambia (EAZ) or (the association) effective 9th June 2021.

I have chosen to concentrate on my personal developmental agenda and give chance to others to move EAZ forward.
Nevertheless, I wish to advise the current and future boards to work on three areas:
Firstly, normalise the EAZ status from limited company to association. This status has been around from before the current board took office.

It comes with serious obligations to statutory bodies and hence needs strategic rethinking.

Secondly the recent calls from our members concerning EAZ’s professional stance cannot be ignored.

It is therefore important that we address this issue either through the EAZ constitution or through the articles of association by the current shareholders.

Lastly the EAZ AGM needs to be considered.

I am thankful for the opportunity and the trust the members had in me to serve the association as board member.

I am very proud of the association’s achievement during our tenor and the progress that together we have made so far.

I will remain active as an ordinary member of the Economics Association of Zambia.

REF: RESIGNATION FROM ECONOMICS ASSOCIATION OF ZAMBIA BOARD

Reference is made to the above subject matter.

I wish to announce my resignation from the Economics Association of Zambia – EAZ as both Board Member and National Secretary on account of concerns that are incompatible with my values. This is a personal decision I have made as I move onto another chapter of my life.

From a corporate governance perspective and in line with the Associations constitution, I am of the view that the original mandate of the EAZ has been deviated from. The Association is expected to uphold the highest levels of independence which I believe we have not been able to demonstrate which has necessitated my decision to exit the board.

With that said, I wish to thank all of you for the experience and would like to thank our members too for according me this opportunity to serve in the period.

I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
