MINISTRY of Commerce, Trade and Industry has embarked on developing the Zambia Local Content Bill which will address the promotion of the utilisation of local products and services in prescribed sectors.
And the Ministry is open to receive submissions on ways to explore it.
This came to light at a Local Content Conference in Lusaka this morning in a speech read on behalf of Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Christopher Yaluma by the .
And Mr Yaluma said Permanent Secretary (PS) Mr. Mushuma Mulengadespite various initiatives implemented by goverment, local content in Zambia has remained low in almost all the sectors of the economy.
Mr. Yaluma attributed this among various challenges perception against local goods and services.
“Allow me to reiterate that govenment is committed to continuously supporting dialogue and interaction with the private sector in order to achieve economic development.It is my sincere hope and trust that today’s meeting will result in the development of practical and tangible measures that will promote the utilisation of local products and services in the country,” Yaluma indicated.
The local content conference under the theme “Leveraging local content to promote industrialization in Zambia” has attracted various stakeholders in the manufacturing industry.
