CEO Lukas ‘Luknet’ Simumba eyes Nakonde Parley seat
By Derrick Sinjela, monitoring from Lusaka Province
A NAKONDE based business person in Muchinga Province Lukas Simumba has declared his earnest intention to contest the parliamentary seat on Patriotic Front ticket with the main agenda of strengthening the agricultural system in the district.
The parliamentary seat is currently controlled by Yizukanji Siwanzi, a PF Member of Parliament and will become vacant on Wednesday 12th May 2021, when President Edgar Chagwa Lungu dissolves parliament.
Speaking when making his intentions known to scores of residents, who had gathered at his residence, Mr. Simumba said the agricultural system has not received much needed support, especially in the area of cultivating rice which most people think is being produced in Nakonde, when in fact not.
“It is unfortunate that our district is well-known as producer of Nakonde Rice, but want consumers throughout Zambia do not know us that most of this grain is being imported from Tanzania,” cried Simumba.
Simumba said once adopted and secured the Parliamentary seat on the PF ticket, he will tirelessly lobby for investment in agriculture through forming of co-operatives to benefit the communities.
Simumba pledged to address other teething socio-economic challenges facing Nakonde residents; through improving the health services, improving the road network, enhancing support in the education system, and lobbying Central Government to create skills training centers.
And former Nakonde District Commissioner Elud Silumbwe has called on the residents to rally behind Simumba, on accout of the business persons entrepreneurial and leadership competence.
“If Mr Simumba is adopted, I urge Nakonde residents to vote for him as he is passionate on developing our area,” Mr. Silumbwe, a veteran politician campaigned.
Meanwhile, a Local based clergyperson, Bishop Lenson Sintumfya said the previous MPs have failed to address challenges facing the residents.
Protested Sintumfya: “All the previous Members of Parliament (MPs) have failed to develop our Constituency, but with Simumba coming on board, this trajectory is going to change through Luknet’s development oriented narrative”.
The other aspirant for adoption is Nathan Musingwa Siame.
