LCC PR OFFICERS EMBARRASS MOYOR
…as they conceal K20,000 money meant for Chelstone Clinic newly born babies
By Elijah Ngoma
LUSAKA City Council (LCC) Public Relations (PR) Officers embarrassed Lusaka Mayor Mr. Miles Bwalya Sampa as they concealed money meant for giving to Chelstone Clinic Christmas babies on the morning of Friday 25th December 2020.
Speaking as he presented Xmas hampers to three mothers, Mayor Sampa was shocked that money meant for the babies was not with council workers from the Public Relations Department had not been given to him.
“We are changing the system as previously, we only gave hampers but begining this year, we shall give cash to mothers. PS Dr. Kennedy Malama, I am sad to report to you that these are daily problems I go through as simple instructions and agreed terms are not complied with by my subordinates. We had a K20, 000 budget out of which baby hampers would have been complimented by a cash payment to the babies,” Mayor Sampa told Ministry of Health (MoH) Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Dr. Kennedy Malama, as Public Relations Department officers fidgeted.
And the Mayor, who was in a jovial mood just dipped his hands in his right back pocket of a black jeans trousers and gave out K500 each to the three mothers of the newly born babies in the labour ward.
Mr. Sampa was shocked when the two LCC PR ladies went to talk to him after the tour that they actually had the K10,000 cash but were scared to hand it over to him apparently out of indecision.
Mayor Sampa was furious and just instructed his drive to head toward Woodland Stadium for Wedding rehearsal with wife-to-be Nchimunya.
As the driver complied, Mayor instructed journalists to get their transport refunds from the same ladies who again refused to obey the Mayor’s directive and continued to defy his instructions several times and only did so after Mayor Sampa spoke to them on phone.
It is a custom every Christmas that government officials and prominent persons donate to newly born babies who are born at 00:00hours, and that is a tradition, LCC chose to follow by going to Chelstone Clinic.
The Mayor was joined by the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Dr. Kennedy Malama who said it was humbling to see the health center in a good, clean and serene environment.
Dr. Malama expressed delight at the improved level of service delivery at the health facility which has professional health workers who are referred to as midwives.
Dr. Malama added that government is working hard to bring sanity in the health sector and that babies born should find clean health facilities.
