OPERATION Save Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) National Secretary Raphael Nakachinda is pleading with President Edgar Chagwa Lungu to make necessary diplomatic arrangements to ensure that Dr. Nevers Sekwila Mumba arrested by security authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo ( DRC) is released from custody forthwith.
Flanked by former Deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice President, Mr. Gaston Sichilima, a worried Mr. Nakachinda told journalists at a Media Briefing hosted at the Operation Save MMD New Office Plot 50 opposite Olympia Secondary School on Kwacha Road in Lusaka that Dr. Mumba was picked at Kolwezi and later transferred to Lubambashi.
In a circulated video, Dr. Mumba, a former Vice President confirmed his being restricted in a hotel in Lubumbashi, with an New Hope MMD entourage.
Earlier, MMD Vice President, Reverend Reuben Sambo was consulted and confirmed the arrest of Dr. Mumba but could not give concrete information on the matter at hand.
However, Mr. Nakachinda distanced Operation Save Movement for Multi-Party Democracy, stating that his team was not part to the scandal which apparently landed Dr. Mumba in DRC restriction or arrest order situation.
“The MMD has always used better ways of sourcing funds and I and my team wonder why Dr. Mumba decided to do wrong things. I regret what happened to Dr. Mumba hence our decision as Operation Save Movement for Multi-Party Democracy to make an earnest appeal to Dr. Lungu to intervene and have Dr. Mumba released. If he committed criminal charges while there, he could answer those charges at home,” prayed Nakachinda.
Nakachinda stated that the conduct of Dr. Mumba is worrisome on account of the level of desperation for political and monetary power shown.
