Derrick Sinjela Curriculum Vitae
I was born on the 23rd of May 1964 and I am currently Executive President of the Rainbow Newspaper Limited, which was incorporated on 13th November 2008 under the auspices of the Patents and Companies Registration Office (PACRO) in Lusaka, Zambia.
My parents were Mr. John Mbuye Sinjela and Mrs. Fides Nambeya-Sinjela
The family includes Gilbert Simwelu, Melody Nanjela, Davison Sinjela, Mildred, Grace Nanjela, Jane Nanjela, Collins Sinjela and I, Derrick Sinjela.
Initially, the Rainbow Newspaper was registered under the auspices of National Archives on 25th June, 2007, after our Consultant Salome Nakazwe did an elaborate establishment proposal for setting up a newspaper in 2006.
Work Experience
I have worked for both privately run and public media institutions. Soon after my training at Norma Jean School of Broadcasting and Public Relations, I initially was on industrial attachment with the Times of Zambia (TOZ). I was under the tutelage of News Editor, Enoch Ngoma, Features Desk Editors, Agnes Banda late, and Mildred Mpundu.
I later worked as a Correspondent for the Times of Zambia, soon after Graduating with a Diploma in Journalism and Public Relations. I was taught by Pastor Emmanuel, Fackson Nkandu, Pascalina Phiri and Dina Phiri.
I later moved to the National Mirror, a Christian Weekly Publication, jointly owned by the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) and the Zambia Episcopal Conference. At the national Mirror, I learnt the journalist ropes under the leadership of the late, Charles Mubambe, late Rueben Tonga, late Joseph Chanda, Juliet Ilunga and Moses Chitendwe.
While at the National Mirror, Francis Lungu, Precious Mwewa, Sarah Ngwenya, Lusubilo Gondwe and I, Derrick Sinjela, as Executive Directors of FRADES Media Alliance, worked tirelessly with Professor Fackson Banda’s Panos Southern Africa (Psaf) and Vainola Malan on a Poverty Reduction Communication intervention. It was conducted in Kalomo, Southern Province and after its completion, we reviewed the project through a live television open line debate Zambia national Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) Television featuring World Food Programme Country Representative for Zambia, Request Muntanga and Late Grace Sialumba, the two Members of Parliament for Kalomo and Ms Drina Nyirenda, as Executive Director of Prevention Against Malnutrition (PAM).
The Poverty Reduction Media work was inspired by an International Monetary Fund (IMF) Poverty Monitoring Programme ZNBC, while the FRADES intervention was tasked with bridging the gap between, Policy makers, implementors, parliamentarians and grassroots communities.
Besides being Executive President and Editor-in-Chief of the Rainbow Newspaper Limited (Zambia), I am currently writing and taking pictures for the Monitor and Digest, Weekly Angel, National Mirror, Times of Zambia, Zambia Daily Mail, The Post, Guardian Weekly, The Supreme, Health Care Magazine, and The Tourism News.
