Political Parties have pledged to strengthen the fight against political violence against women during and after elections.
The Political Parties hope to see a lot of women not just taking part in politics but to also take key leadership positions which will thence enable their enjoyment of human rights.
And Zambia Centre for Inter-party Dialogue (ZCID) Chairperson Jackson Silavwe says women need to be given the space for them to exploit their potential in politics free of violence.
Speaking during a Training of Trainers workshop in Conflict Management and impact of political violence on women, Mr. Silavwe says the training of women in conflict management will not only end political violence against women but will also work to end political violence against every Zambia.
“If all the political leaders take interest in informing their people and followers,” he says.
The ZCID organised workshops in partnership Hivos and Zambia Women’s Lobby have been held not only in Lusaka but other four other Provinces that include Copperbelt, Western, Southern and Eastern.
Mr Silavwe adds that the Conflict Management and impact of political violence on women manual which ZCID is distributing to different political parties will go a long way in engaging and helping all political players to practice and enjoy politics without experiencing political violence.
He adds that “at the end of this process the manual book must be able to assist provincial political leaders in taking key interest to create public influence of women to penetrate in the political sphere”.
“The move is an effort to prioritize skills and capacity enhancement of women leaders and political parties in dealing with violence in the country that affects the women especially. This is in recognition of their role and potential to shape public opinion and decisions through political parties and governance structures,” the ZCID Chairperson notes.
Among the political parties present are Green party, National Democratic Congress, Patriotic Front, National Revolution Party, Forum for Democracy and Development, Movement for Multy Party Democracy, the Democratic Party, Socialist Party, Golden Party and United National Independence Party.
The parties represented have pledged to denounce and ending violence while supporting women aspiring to be leaders within their political parties.
