CCZ assists Mazabuka and Monze flood victims

THE Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has just concluded a humanitarian mission through provision of mealie meal and blankets to Mazabuka and Monze flood victims in the Southern Province.
And CCZ Programmes Coordinator, Abraham Chikasa has prodded Christians and the corporate society in Zambia to provide material and monetary contribution to flood victims.
Making the donation, CCZ education and Emergency Coordinator, Edwin Milambo noted that it was their hope that the assortment of basic commodities would ease the burden faced by Mazabuka and Monze flood victims.
The partner support was provided under the auspices of Action By Churches Together
Milambo added that the CCZ like other Church mother bodies such as the Evangelical fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) and the Zambia Episcopal conference (ZEC) had taken keen interest in ameliorating the plight of flood victims throughout Zambia’s provinces grappling with increased rainfall patterns.
Speaking in an interview in Lusaka, Milambo explained that a consignment of 446 bags of mealie meal, 10 bags of beans, five bags of kapenta, 130 Insecticide Treated Nets (ITN’s) and 342 blankets was provided to recipients in Mazabuka
For Monze, 750 bags of mealie meal, seven (7) bags of beans, five (5) bags of kapenta, 300 Insecticide Treated Mosquito Nets (ITN’s) and 640 blankets were donated to flood victims in Monze.
“We have just provided mealie meal, kapenta, beans, ITN’s and blankets to flood victims in Mazabuka and Monze and our hope and prayer is that these materials will help in ameliorating the plight of people I the Southern Province,” said Milambo.
Milambo said the humanitarian effort was being distributed through CCZ affiliate member-churches structures in the Southern Province.
Zambia has in a couple of months been grappling with floods which has displaced millions of rural and urban citizens.
In a related development, CCZ Programmes Coordinator, Chikasa challenged member churches, individual Christians and the corporate society to come forth with material and monetary contributions to ease the socio-economic burden faced by flood victims.
Speaking at a United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Mandevu Township congregation, east North of Lusaka, Chikasa said it was imperative for Christians and the corporate world to speed up the process of offering compassion to flood victims.
“As Christians it is our duty to offer spiritual and physical comfort to flood victims. We need to offer support to everyone in need regardless of religious affiliation,” said Chikasa.
