By Jedidiah Emmanuel Katongo Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common sexually transmitted infection that can cause cervical cancer, as well as other types of cancer and genital warts. HPV is a major public health problem in Africa, where it is estimated to cause over 300,000 deaths from cervical cancer each year. The International Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA) is playing an important role in helping to fight HPV in Africa.
