His Excellency Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia has stated that Zambia attaches great importance to its bilateral relations with Swaziland, which are based on mutual respect and shared goals on national and regional development.
The President said this at State House yesterday when he received a Special Envoy to His Royal Highness King Mswati III, Prince Hlangusemphi, Minister of Economic Planning and Development of the Kingdom of Swaziland who delivered a special message from the King.
President Lungu recalled the fruitful bilateral discussions he held with His Royal Highness King Mswati III on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum on Africa held earlier this month in Durban, South Africa.
The President reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to the consolidation of existing bilateral relations with Swaziland, as well as the enhancement of cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
He commended King Mswati III for his sterling leadership of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), in his capacity as Chairperson, and affirmed Zambia’s support of his Royal Highness’s tenure as chairperson of the regional body.
The President stated that Swaziland can count on Zambia’s continued support at the SADC and other multilateral fora.
The President described Swaziland as a strategic partner for Zambia hence the country will continue to value the close relations with Swaziland.
The President also discussed a broad range of issues pertaining to regional peace and security and called for greater integration of the SADC region.
And In his Special message to the President, King Mswati III invited President Lungu for a State Visit to Swaziland in July this year.
The King stated that among the issues to be discussed during the State Visit include: bilateral cooperation, business opportunities and capacity building.
