SEPA trains Small Scale Farmers in Mufumbwe District on the Impact of the Pandemic on Food and Nutrition Security.
SAVE the Environment and People Agency (SEPA) says there is need to train farmers on how the impact of Covid-19 could be mitigated in the agricultural sector.
SEPA Chief Executive Officer Mailes Zulu Muke said it was important that farmers were equiped on mitigating the impact of the pandemic on food and nutrition security.
Mrs Muke said this could be done using the climate Smart Agriculture Technoligies in Zambia.
She said the training project is being implemented in 4 Countries in the SADC Region namely Iswatin, Monzabeque, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
It is funded by the European Union (EU) in partnership with Center for Coordination for Agriculture Research and development in Southern Africa
SEPA is the implementing Partner in Zambia.
” This project will help many farmers and consumers in North Western Province, the country at large and in the neighbouring countries such as Congo DR and Namibia if well implemented,” she said.
Mrs Muke observed that the covid-19 pandemic had affected many economies globally and that by having such initiatives, something could be done to atleast cushion the impact.
She said that the pandemic had increased food security in the agricultural sector and increasing the number of people needing humanitarian assistance, a situation she said needed urgent intervention.
Mrs Muke said immediate intervention to alleviate the impact in the sector especially on small scale farmers could not be overemphasized at this stage.
