By Sibeso Nalufu
FORMER model and now television presenter Katanekwa Matundwelo, through her production company Tane Productions, has opened an online shop stocking high end jewelry to hair products.
The online shop is going under the mantra of “Bringing a Sexy mark back to business.”
“Tane Productions through its online shop http://storebytane.myshopify.com defies the recession and puts its affordable foot forward into the Zambian market,” says Katanekwa Matundwelo, the 2006 Miss Zambia winner, who holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in the Bible and Theology.

“For the past seven years, Tane Productions company has operated as distributors through the leading retail outlets, Pick ‘n Pay, Shoprite & Game Stores. Having first launched our retail business as the Revlon Cosmetics Franchise through Foschini, we studied the market and learnt the rules of engagement of brick & mortar. Today we launch our online store ByTane as the Queens of Retail!
Stated Katanekwa Matundwelo: “At ByTane we take a personal interest in a holistic lifestyle approach. We aim at being your one-stop beauty & fashion shop, with shopping convenience at your fingertips and delivery at your doorstep.”
Tane Productions Limited was established in 2008 as an independent television production company with a bias towards content creation and distribution.
In a bid to expand their reach and create a more sustainable operational business system, they later introduced a second business line through retail distribution.
Tane Productions holding brand name is ByTane.
In 2010 the company went on to become the sole distributor for Revlon Cosmetics on the Zambian market.

By 2012, Tane Productions also became the sole distributors of smooth organics hair care products, and designed, fully owned and distributed an in-house hair extension line Feisty.
“Our distribution parameters for the hair care and hair extension products were done through the main retailing chain stores Pick n’ Pay, Shoprite & Game Stores giving our product reach nearly 50 percent national coverage,” Katanekwa Matundwelo says.
“When the Zambian economy took a turn for the worse in 2015, , the retail industry and more specifically luxury consumer goods were hardest hit. This saw an almost immediate plunge in consumer spending. Our aim in taking our product offer online is so that we can reduce our prices to the customer by no less than thirty-five (35%) percent,”observed Katanekwa Matundwelo

Said Katanekwa Matundwelo: “Aside bringing our product price significantly lower, having an online presence means we have first-hand contact with our clientele base. This in turn gives us the ability to respond to queries efficiently and more so tailor our products to fit our clients’ lifestyle needs.”
