IT is the rainy season again when farmers take centre stage in the socio-economic and food security activities spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MACO).
But it is not all that rosy for other sectors of the economy as increased rainfall worsens the deplorable state of the road network in Zambia.
The Disasters Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) is a Governmental structure located in Vice-President Dr Guy Scott’s leadership arm at Cabinet Office tasked with resolving disasters annually worsened in the rainy season.
DMMU National Coordinator Domiciano Mulenga reiterated Government’s commitment through a Contingency Plan Framework of Action for 2011-2012 meant to minimize natural and man made calamities.
‘We have completed 29 bridges in the first phase of our work. We are yet to complete 91 projects in eight provinces. Lack of proper equipment remains a challenge in delivering materials and logistical resources to disaster areas throughout Zambia,” Mulenga said.
