CONSUMER Unity and Trust Society (CUTS) Consultant Natasha Chilundeka has implored government through Agriculture Minister Ms. Dora Siliya to put in place restrictive measures regarding the operations of the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to improve the functioning of the maize markets and the agriculture sector.
Ms. Chilundeka said during a Media Breakfast that the FRA should target purchases towards outlying areas that are harder for private buyers to reach rather than those along the line of rail.
Ms. Chilundeka said government should use a price band to signal its intervention in the market beyond the purchase of national strategic reserves to provide certainty to the market.
“Government must use a price band to signal its intervention in the market beyond the purchase of national strategic reserves to provide certainty to the market,” said Ms. Chilundeka during a Radisson Blu Hotel meeting.
Meanwhile, Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS) Board Member Yusuf Dodia says CUTS collaboration with Millers Association of Zambia, Grain Traders Association and Zambian Commodities Exchange (ZAMACE) seeks to find solution for consumers’ benefit.
