Leadership Movement (LM) President Dr. Richard Silumbe is prodding the United Party for National Development (UPND) leadership to help Zambia National Service (ZNS) embark on a mining expedition in Zambia to complement agriculture production.
And citing huge deposits of mineral ore in Zambia, Uranium, to mention but one, Leadership Movement Secretary General (SG) Jairos Ngoma wants local investors led by the Zambia National Service to venture in the extractive industry.A concerned Mr. Ngoma wants the News Dawn Administration led by President Hakainde Hichilema, through Defence Minister Ambrose Lufuma, Mines Minister, Paul Kabuswe, Home Affairs Minister, Jack Mwiimbu and Technology and Science Minister, Felix Chipota Mutati to lobby for technology enabling Zambia National Service to venture into mining.
“Apart from providing defense and security ZNS is duty bound to provide food security and produce more than 70 percent of maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA),” advised Ngoma.
Earlier, Dr. Silumbe said the Zambian currency will be one of the strongest in Africa if there is a consistent flow of foreign exchange due mining activities in the economy, hence the buying power empowering local people.
On Saturday 15th April, 2023, speaking to Zambian media, Dr. Silumbe alluded to abundant land and water resources, as a preserve of Zambians as opposed to giving it “foreign investors”.
“Foreigners have become the first priority in modern day Zambia, Zambian individuals and cooperatives formed by Zambian must be registered issued with title deeds for farming and mining as opposed to giving huge portions of land to foreigners,” Dr. Silumbe stressed.
The Leadership Movement president also implored the UPND Administration to provide Zambian millers with affordable energy to produce more mealie- meal for local consumption and export.
Dr. Silumbe said another most important thing the current government must work on is affordable energy in terms of hydroelectricity and solar energy to make the cost of doing business affordable for Zambians.
