Zambia’s mealie meal food prices worry Dr. Fred M’membe

“We continue to have a serious crisis of food of mealie meal. Prices are going up every day, while the selling of mealie meal to Congo continues.

We have advised Mr. HAKAINDE HICHILEMA and his government against resorting to desperate measures to address the mealie meal shortages in the country.

We guided that knee jerk responses to address this problem won’t do. But they did not heed the advice and instead they proceeded with their unachievable plan.

To this day, they have failed to stabilize both the supply and the price of the commodity. And this has resulted in smuggling and other illegal dealings in the commodity.

Let this United Party for National Development (UPND) government heed our call on the mealie meal issue before the situation gets out of hand.

And we ask the Zambia National Service (ZNS) to account for the illegal trade in the commodity that is exclusively produced by them.

Our people have suffered enough and the situation cannot continue to worsen”.
