Assurance given to Zambia by Rwandan President Paul Kagame cheers Zambia
By Francis Mwiinga
It is disheartening that various groupings and individuals, including political and Civil Society Organisations leaders are commenting irresponsibly on the accusation made by Callixte ‘Sankara’ Nsabimana accusing president Edgar Lungu in that country’s High Court of having sponsored rebels rise against the duly elected government of Paul Kagame.
The irresponsible commentaries and conclusions being made without understanding facts has the capacity to strain the relationship and bring divisions between the two countries that enjoyed cordial relationship for a very long time.
It is important that the people are mature enough and avoid making irresponsible commentaries as an envoy was sent to Rwanda to investigate the matter further and understand the motive behind Nsabimana’s accusations on president Edgar Lungu.
President Lungu last Thursday sent his Foreign Minister Joe Malanji to Rwanda to understand social media allegations made against president Lungu that he funded rebels.
The foreign affairs minister had an opportunity to meet Rwandan president Kagame who not only informed him that his government does not believe in the allegation one bit but also assured him that the two countries still enjoy cordial relationship.
The Government of the Republic of Zambia is using all known diplomatic channels to investigate why Callixte ‘Sankara’ Nsabimana chose to falsely accuse President Edgar Lungu in his court testimony and the country will be informed of the outcome accordingly.
Due to the sensitivity of the matter which being dealt with a high diplomatic level between the two countries, it will be contemptuous for any to keep on commenting and penal sanction is like to follow those who may decide to ignore the advice.
In the interest of peace enjoyed by the two countries and assurance given to Zambia by president Kagame that the two countries of still enjoy the usual cordial relationship, the people of Zambia are advised to refrain from making running and unnecessary commentaries on the matter until the ongoing investigations using diplomatic channels are exhausted.
