Rural Communities Benefit from U.S.-Zambia partnership for Forest and Wildlife Conservation

RUFUNSA — On December 17, the U.S. government, in partnership with the Zambian government’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife, officially launched the refurbished Mukamba Gate Complex at the northern entrance to Lower Zambezi National Park.  The complex benefitted from support of the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Community Forests Program. The launch event also included the graduation of 22 Community Scouts, who in collaboration with the local Community Resource Boards, will serve as frontline advocates for forest and wildlife conservation. “If we lose Zambia’s forests and wildlife, we lose a critical driver of economic growth for our local communities,” said U.S....

1282 people killed on Zambia’s Roads by September 30th 2018 over 100 every month, let’s be safe this festival season

By Daniel Mwamba (December 15th, 2018, Lusaka, ZAMBIA) – The latest road safety benchmarking report from the Zambia Road Safety Trust (ZRST) shows there were 127 lives saved in road fatalities in the first nine months of 2018. The report finds that in the year to September 2018, 1,282 lives were lost on our roads, compared to 1,407 in 2017, about 127 fewer during the same period last year.
