Development Activist, Canisius Banda, and opposition Zambia Wake-Up Party – ZAWAPA- leader, Howard Kunda, have both underplayed the significance of the United Party for National Development (UPND) Alliance New Dawn Administration employing 4,140 health workers in the year 2025.
Both Dr. Banda and Mr. Kunda, argue that there is nothing to celebrate about that the UPND Administration has employed 4,140 health workers.
Dr. Banda, in particular, is arguing that it is routine for the Government to employ public service workers every year as a consequence of natural attrition and new infrastructure developments that might have been occasioned in the past.

When the private sector employs more and more then that is worth celebrating but at present the opposite is true, the private is shedding off jobs to break even.
Speaking as a Public Health Specialist (PHS), Dr. Banda says any other Government would thus have done the same as an obligation of duty bearers.
The Development Activist thinks that what people should celebrate is when the Government does extraordinary things such as create more indigenous millionaires, improve people’s livelihoods, harvest energy from the atom or open up more advanced, specialised health or cancer hospitals.
Dr. Banda contends that it is however expected that with the inmproved ratio of health workers against the number of patients, there will be better delivery of health services to the public, the quality of healthcare should improve.
Dr. Banda is opposed to Zambia sending patients for cancer treatment to other countries when it has and can build more capacity to handle such cases locally.
“For example, let us enhance national security by improving the per capita income and becoming self-reliant in financing for malaria, HIV and tuberculosis. Then we can celebrate.
Such are things worth celebrating and not the building if traffic circles and toilets. The Government should not dabble in backwardness but move Zambia forward in real terms,” Dr. Banda said
And Mr. Kunda has added that it cannot be news for the Zambian Government to employ over 4,000 health workers.

Mr. Kunda thinks that it should only be news if the Government reduce the cost of mealie meal in Zambia.
Kunda says this is the message his party, ZAWAPA, will in fact, be spreading to the people of Zambia ahead of the Thursday 13th August 2026 General Elections, that it will reduce the cost of mealie meal once it forms government.
