MULTICHOICE has donated critical Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and supplies worth K225,000 to Surgical Society of Zambia (SSZ) to help the country with the fight against Covid-19 and strengthen its response efforts.
Over the past months, Zambia has seen a spike in both Covid-19 cases and related deaths, with the healthcare system being stretched to its limits as more than 1000 new cases are identified and reported per day.
During a Tuesday 27th July, 2021 presentation, MultiChoice Zambia, Chief Customer Officer, Mrs. Leah Kooma said a surge in Covid-19 cases poses a great challenge to health institutions and increasing medical supplies to the Surgical Society of Zambia is critical to enhancing its capacity to respond effectively.
‘’As MultiChoice we remain committed to supporting the communities in which we operate with investment on issues that matter most to them. In supporting our health workers, we are donating these PPE today which we hope will help and better equip our health workers to fight the pandemic. We also want to take this moment to convey our gratitude to our frontline health workers who are working tirelessly,” said Mrs. Kooma.
She added: “I believe that public and private partnerships are important if we are to succeed in the fight against the pandemic and restore our normal social and economic norms in our communities.”
Speaking when he received the donation, Surgical Society of Zambia (SSZ) President Dr. Michael Mbambiko said: “We are thankful to MultiChoice Zambia for this donation because it will go a long way in addressing the needs of surgical health workforce in the country.
“Our ongoing collaborations with key stakeholders like MultiChoice are essential to ensure that we fight the pandemic effectively.”
“We note that as we make progress on the vaccine roll-out, it remains vital for treatment to be available so we can make a meaningful difference in the fight against COVID-19,” said Dr Mbambiko.
The donation of medical supplies by MultiChoice is part of the business’ ongoing efforts to supporting the COVID-19 pandemic response in the country.
Last year, MultiChoice Zambia donated various materials, face masks and 10,000 disposable isolation gowns to the Ministry of Health (MOH) in the fight against Covid-19.
