PARA-BADMINTON ATHLETES WIN SIX MEDALS IN THE AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIP

It’s a medal season for Team Zambia as athletes from different sports disciplines have continued to make headlines by reaping medals at different major competitions.
Just like President Hakainde Hichilema had disclosed that ‘Zambia is back in the champions league his words have proven to have motivated athletes to excel more as this is evident from the number of medals and success stories the nation has recently continued to record.
To this effect, Zambian athletes who participated at the Africa Para-Badminton Championship held in Kampala Uganda from 19 to 24 September have come back home with (1) silver and (5) bronze medals.
The championship had 13 countries participating among them Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Egypt, Zambia, DRC, Uganda, Central Africa Republic, Eritrea, and Ivory Coast.
Zambia minted medals through Josephine Zulu SU5, Martha Chewe SL3, Vienna Hamuchenje SL4, Lucy Kamanga SL3 and Innocent Chabala WH2.
Team Captain Vienna Hamuchenje says the competition was tough adding that her teammates did not want to disappoint the nation by not coming back home without any medals. She adds that players had a wonderful opportunity to showcase the talent Zambia para-badminton has on the field of play.
And Team coach Jenipher Phiri who is also a commissioner for Para-Badminton has called on the corporate world to consider supporting athletes with several prosthetic items to help them compete well. She says the games in Uganda went well and has paid gratitude to those who have shown interest to support her athletes.
Meanwhile, NOCZ Athletes Commission Chairperson and Board Member Richard Mulenga has congratulated the para-badminton athletes for their great performance in Uganda.
