RTSA cautions the travelling public against using unregistered in-transit vehicles as mode of transport

THE Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has observed with regret the increasing rate at which some individuals are using unregistered In-Transit ( IT) vehicles to carry passengers contrary to the provision of the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002.
The Agency in is particular concerned with the happenings at Nakonde boarder were some individuals are using the imported unregistered In-Transit vehicles to carry passengers, an act that violates the provision of the law.

The latter is equally detrimental to road safety as such vehicles are not authorized to carry any passengers, and in an event that an accident occur, in most cases the accidents are not reported.

The travelling public are also cautioned against the use of unregistered motor vehicles or In-Transit vehicles, but should therefore use appropriate transport such as Public Services Vehicles (PSVs).
Statutory Instrument No.76 of 2016 restricts the movement of Public Service Vehicles and unregistered In-Transit vehicles between 21:00 hours and 05:00 hours.

Subsequently, the RTSA and the Zambia Police shall impound all unregistered In-Transit vehicles and PSVs moving at night.

The traveling public are urged to report through the RTSA toll free line 983 any drivers or transport operators contravening the provisions of the regulation.
Any person who contravenes the provisions of SI No.76 commits an offence and is liable upon conviction, to a fine not exceeding one thousand penalty units or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months, or to both.
