“YOUR diet is a bank account. Good food choices are good investment,” Bethenny Frankel once said.
Truly, good food choices define our health status as individuals and families at large. Unfortunately, many people eat food just for satisfaction and not for the nutritional benefit they may get from it.

Very few people buy food with nutritional values in mind due to economic pressures they face. The money may not be suffice to buy required food which contains vitamins and minerals which are necessary for the body.

However, when it comes to choosing which bread or scones to buy, many people quickly go for white bread or scones. Why then is brown bread or scones unpopular?

“When I was a baker, we could use 1000kgs of flour to bake white bread per day because the demand on the market is very high. But as for brown bread, we could use only 100kgs because the demand is low,” narrates Wilson Bowa, a former baker.

Brown bread is not found in many shops because people do not buy it. The only places one can find it is in supermarkets.

People talked to states the reason for favouring white bread over brown bread. “I like white bread because it is smooth to swallow and its appearance is attractive than brown bread,” says Mercy Ng’andu once of the consumers.

Many people look at brown bread as the bread for those with diabetes despite its rich nutritional contents. Much sensitization is required to help people understand that brown bread is good for everyone not only those who are diabetic. “To remove ignorance is an important branch of benevolence,” said Ann Plato.
