Aside from remembering Canon Liwewe, April is a memorable month for Zambia as it is when a contingent of footballers led by then FAZ President, Michael Mulenga, trainers Godfrey ‘Ucar’ Chitalu and Alex ‘Computer Chola died in a plane crash, 25 years ago on 28th April 1993.

“Four years on today… To say I miss you is an understatement. Words fail me and to think I was in Nkotakota a couple of days ago, your birthplace by Lake Malawi. It was surreal. Continue to rest in peace until we meet again. Your loving daughter, Kwangu Wa Liwewe”.

Kachinga Sichizya said: “I nearly forgot this…but Mr Dennis Liwewe influenced and inspired me as a younger man. My friends from Nakonde Primary School and David Kaunda will remember how I became a regular commentator of school football matches. I didnt play first team football but I was taken on the tours for the purpose to give a running commentary as the match progressed. Dennis Liwewe had many people try and imitate his gift but I was considered quite close to Him to a point some people began to believe he was my father! Mr Liwewe was my hero. He was a great man. People all over the country would be glued to their small radios every Sunday afternoon to listen Dennis present his lively live commentaries. A legend indeed.  He died loving the Lord Jesus. He is resting in Eternal peace. Glory be to God. Thank you Kwangu Wa Liwewe”.

Lawrence Thompson said: “Great man always so pleasant when we met. I remember when I did an interview with him for Aljazeera what a warm welcome we received. I cried with him when he did the tribute to the national team when the team perished on the coast of Gabon. His pain was so genuine. We miss this great guy”.
