Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) General Secretary Ponga Liwewe

Phillip Liwewe wants Airtel All Stars Zambia transformed into a global conquering outfit before he dies.

Canon Liwewe is excited that Airtel All Stars project is targeted at motivating young footballers to exploit their individual and collective potentials.

The Veteran Sports Commenter credited with covering the entire five continents is elated that the search for football talent at grass root level acts as a springboard and great opportunity on which to revive Zambian football.

And like father-like-son, Ponga Liwewe did not mince words pointing out that that the intervention by Airtel will see Zambian football rise to greater height.

Liwewe said in the past the search for football talent used to start from the top which has not

worked.

“I commend Airtel Company for coming on board and taking ownership sponsoring the Airtel Rising Star set to improve the landscape of soccer in the country,” veteran sports commentator Liwewe acknowledged during an event hosted at Addis Ababa Road Airtel House in Lusaka .

“Bringing all the talents from rural areas into town and teaching them the skills is one important thing that has happened to boost football in Zambia,” Liwewe said.

Canon Liwewe is hoping that other companies will emulate Airtel and involve themselves in other sporting activities.

“I will be the happiest man before I die to see these youths who have been sponsored grow-up as great national team players and uplift the Zambian flag in terms of football,” Liwewe said.

And Airtel Managing Director Fayaz King has called on the youths to maintain the highest levels of personal discipline if they are to become real football and sporting stars.

Officiating at the Airtel Rising Star (ARS) Thank You ceremony King said the youths underwent vigorous trainings with the best world-class coaches available and that Airtel would continue to support them as they pursue their journey to becoming bigger stars in the future.

Recently five lads namely; Paul Mukokili, Kelvin Muyamba (North-Western Province), Patrick Lochi (Luapula province), Robson Mwitwa (Lusaka Province and Elliot Daka (Copperbelt Province) were picked from the tournaments to attend a football clinic in South Africa at the Santos Club in Cape Town.

0n his part, Ponga described the Airtel rising Star project as a perfect step in filling the gap left by teams initially sponsored by the Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines (ZCCM).

“This is a good step by Airtel as the Rising Star project is filling the gap created following the withdrawal of ZCCM sponsorship,” Ponga said.
