Social protection policies aim at reducing socio-economic risks, vulnerability, extreme poverty and deprivation, while agricultural policies for “small holder farmer” focus on improving productivity in crops, fisheries, livestock and improving access to markets. Therefore, both social protection and agricultural areas of policy are important in poverty reduction strategies, but little attention has been paid to the interaction between them and how that influences their design and implementation.
The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has done evidence reviews on this subject which clearly indicates that both support the fulfilment of each other’s objectives.

Presentations by Department of Community Development and Indaba Agriculture Policy Research Institute (IAPRI) will share program specifics and experiences (FSP and e-voucher system) in strengthening coordination of social protection and agriculture policies and programmes for poverty reduction in Zambia.
The quarterly LUSAKA SOCIAL PROTECTION COLLOQUIUM is a joint initiative of SASPEN (www.saspen.org), PSPZ (www.pspzambia.org) and FES (www.fes-zambia.org) to bring internationally renowned social protection experts to Zambia to address the interested public, experts, policy makers and stakeholders.
